A group of ten sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of disseminating false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating false narrative suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the first lady's gender.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens brushed aside any factual proof contradicting her allegations in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
